The state's fourth bid for a mini-casino has been awarded to Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment Inc.

For a swath of land between Carlisle and Chambersburg in South Central Pennsylvania.

The $8.1 million bid submitted by Greenwood was actually the second highest bid submitted in Wednesday's fourth round of bid-taking for Pennsylvania's new string of mini-casinos.

But the Greenwood bid - which enables them to seek development sites in a 15-mile radius from South Newton Township, Cumberland County - became the winner after the initial high bid for a site in Mercer County was disqualified for being too close to potential competitors.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced its determination Thursday morning.

Greenwood already operates the Parx Casino in Bensalem, Bucks County.

It is also a partner with Cordish Gaming in Stadium Casino LLC, which is licensed to build a major new casino near Philadelphia's stadium complex.

Greenwood officials could not be reached for this report.
